Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026

1. About this application

HomeAssistant is a privately operated home automation installation using the open-source Home Assistant platform. It is independently administered and is not an official service operated by Google or the Home Assistant project.

This policy explains how the application accesses and processes information obtained through Google APIs, particularly the Google Calendar API.

2. Information accessed from Google

When a user authorises the application to connect to their Google account, the application accesses Google Calendar information permitted by the OAuth permissions granted by that user.

This information may include:

The application does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Contacts or other Google services unless separately configured and authorised.

3. How Google information is used

Google Calendar information is used solely to provide calendar-related functionality within the private Home Assistant installation.

This includes:

4. Data storage and retention

OAuth credentials and authentication tokens are stored within the Home Assistant installation on privately operated server infrastructure.

Calendar event information may be temporarily processed or cached by Home Assistant to provide calendar entities, event displays and automation functionality.

Home Assistant configuration data and associated backups may contain authentication credentials or information obtained through the integration. These are protected using the security controls of the privately operated server.

Information is retained only as necessary to provide the configured functionality. Removing the integration removes its associated configuration and credentials from active Home Assistant storage. Existing backups may retain historical copies until those backups expire or are deleted.

5. Information sharing

Google Calendar information is not sold, rented or disclosed to third parties for advertising, marketing or commercial data collection.

Information is transmitted to and received from Google through the official Google APIs as necessary to provide the calendar integration.

Calendar information may be made available to other locally configured Home Assistant integrations or components when explicitly configured by the administrator. Any external services connected to those components may process information according to their own privacy policies and settings.

6. Artificial intelligence and automated processing

Google Calendar information is not used to train or fine-tune artificial intelligence models.

The application does not use Google API data to generate AI-generated non-consensual intimate imagery or for surveillance, advertising or profiling.

If an administrator explicitly configures a Home Assistant component or assistant to access calendar information, that information may be processed by the configured component to provide the requested functionality.

7. Data security

The Home Assistant installation is privately operated. Access is restricted to authorised users through authentication controls.

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect stored information and authentication credentials against unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure.

8. User control and deletion

Users may revoke the application's access to their Google account through their Google Account security settings.

Users may also request disconnection by removing the Google Calendar integration from Home Assistant.

Revoking access prevents the application from obtaining further information through the revoked authorisation. Existing Home Assistant data and backups may need to be deleted separately.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated when application functionality or data handling practices change. The updated policy will be published at this address.
